What do I look for while my jobs S2000 is in the back lot?

The S2000 is getting cleaned up today as part of its processing, it’ll get taken to the warehouse and have pictures taken as well (I am so driving it there, fuck all my other co workers).

So while it’s here I have a solid hour to check it out. What should I be paying particular close attention to?

I have checked a s2000 forum and have compiled a list so far: leaks (engine, trans, diff) tires, alignment, rust in the fenders, water in the trunk, condition of the soft top, brake fluid level, clutch fluid level, and oil level and color.

If I do get to take it to the warehouse, it’s about 10 blocks away. I plan to make sure it doesnt pop out of any gear as well during that short drive. Anything I should keep my ear out for during that?

you should look at the design of the front bumper, and the tach, and the engine code, and realise its an AP2 and its not the high strung AP1 that you SHOULD get :P

A quick glance at the pic made me think the pusher bar on the front of the super duty was some sort of ridiculous chrome abomination of a wing on the S2000...first instinct was to tell you to look for a new trunk lid and get rid of it.

Why would the tires and soft top condition have any factor towards buying/not buying the car? Those are wear items that should be used in determining the purchase price. Same as any other outstanding/unknown routine maintenance item. Definitely not the same category as rust or oil issues that could be deal breakers.

You’ll be good, I think, other than that you’d end up with an S2000. at 6'4" and change, it was not a good car to drive.

You just need to always drive at 7000 RPM, then there are plenty of balls. Cruising down the highway? 7000. Driving to the grocery store? 7000. Trying to be quiet late at night in the neighborhood? 7000. ALWAYS 7000 (or more).

Agreed, I just went this morning to sign paperwork so I can get a drug test and all that at another bmw dealership. None of my surroundings are changing, so I’m changing my surroundings. I’ve told them I want a management position, but they cant afford to loose the 16 to 20 cars I do a month, so they take the guy that does 6, because it’s not a big deal to loose those units, one of us will pick them up....so they dangle that management carrot in front of me now... i told them in my last review that i’m no longer interested in being a manager there. so I took that away from them. at least now i’ll be in an auto mall and sell from 9 brands, vs. being a single point store. and alot of opportunity to move up....
